Greenland has 70 decentralized, stand-alone energy systems with their own stability requirements with a capacity from ca. 30 kW to 45 MW that can provide electricity to 1-15.000 residents. Heating is generated by waste incineration, fossil heating plants or hydropower in the urban communities (Mortensen 2016).
Greenland has been partly self-supplying with energy since 1993 by help of hydropower plants and waste incineration. Greenland adopted its Energy Supply Regulation No.14 from November 6 in 1997 (Grønlands Hjemmestyre, 1997), and this is still in force and forms the basis for promotion of renewable energy sources in Greenland (Mortensen 2016).
In this work we investigate potential solar feasibility in Greenland using the village of Qaanaaq, Greenland as a case study to demonstrate several optimized energy scenarios. 1.1. Alternative energy in the arctic Both wind turbines and solar photovoltaic (PV) are mature technologies.
No comprehensive study on Greenland has been found, as existing studies focus on small individual communities. Such studies provide a tailored perspective on decentralised energy systems, considering local climate conditions, energy demand, and quality of local renewable resources.
Solar power is a promising energy source that already has been well implemented and surely is scalable as indicated in table 4. The level of radiation varies throughout the year, but at the bottom line there is as much radiation in Greenland as other places on the world where solar power is eagerly implemented (Villumsen 2016).
With an agreement on new hydroelectric plants in Qasigiannguit and Aasiaat and the expansion of the existing one in Nuuk, green energy should spread across the Greenlandic geographical map. The political course is set in Greenland, with less importing of oil from abroad and a much larger share of green energy in Greenland.

The future of the Ecuadorian electricity sector relies on thesuccessful application of the new Organic Law of Public Service of Electricity, the limitations of state enterprises for managing and operating the electricity system, and on external funding for new energy projects. In this research, an analysis of the electricity market in Ecuador is carried out, a portfolio of projects by source is presented, which are structured in maps with a view to an energy transition according to the official data provided.
The Ecuadorian electricity sector is considered strategic due to its direct influence with the development productive of the country. In Ecuador for the year 2020, the generation capacity registered in the national territory was 8712.29 MW of NP (nominal power) and 8095.25 MW of PE (Effective power). The generation sources are presented in Table 1.
Under thenecessity of changing the energy matrix, the Ecuadorian State is committed to substantially reducing the use of fossil fuels for electricity generation and, instead, using its enormous hydropower potential and non-conventional renewable energies (NCRE).
The belief that promoted this new Plan was that the market, through its own forces, principles and dynamism, would encourage new companies to invest in electricity generation. However, the results were not satisfactory in Ecuador due to bothinsufficient interest of new companies and lack of fresh capital ( CONELEC, 2007a ).
Ecuador provides business opportunities for electric generation given the current electricity crisis and rising demand. Additionally, the country plans to reach self-sufficiency through clean production and potentially export energy to neighboring countries.

Austria aims to achieve a 100% renewable electricity production by 2030 with 1,000,000 homes having solar panels fitted by that date. 11 TWh of extra photovoltaics will be needed above 2021 levels. . As of the end of 2022, solar power in Austria amounted to nearly 3.8 (GW) of cumulative (PV) capacity, with the energy source producing 4.2% of the nation's electricity. In addition to supporting. . • • • • • . • [pdf]
There are a few different ways to switch to solar energy in Austria, depending on where you live. For example, Wien Energie in Vienna runs a citizen solar power project which involves people investing in a solar power plant in return for carbon-free energy.
Currently, domestic solar heat production is around 100 GWh per year, but an IEA study says Austria could produce more than three times as much with investment into facilities. FOR MEMBERS: Rising energy prices: How to save money on bills in Austria
Approval of the grant will depend on the availability of the budget, which currently runs until 31 December 2022. The Austrian Federal Government recently pledged to provide a further €20 million to the Climate and Energy Fund. The argument for solar power generation in Austria
According to the latest figures from Statistik Austria, the most commonly used energy source in Austria is electricity at 24.3 per cent. This is followed by fuel wood (19.3 percent), natural gas (18.6 percent) and district heating (13.5 percent). Natural gas is also the second most popular energy source nationwide for heating after fuel wood.
